On September 26, Nasdaq CSD in cooperation with Latvijas Banka held a finance industry’s expert discussion followed by a reception in honour of the Nasdaq CSD Grand Launch.

More than 100 capital market professionals, policy makers, business and investment community experts from the Baltic region and beyond gathered in Riga to discuss the benefits and new opportunities for the Baltic capital market arising from the migration of Nasdaq CSD to the pan-European securities settlement platform T2S, as well as further financial integration of the Baltic market in Europe, its growth potential and opportunities for strengthening the region’s competitiveness.

At the opening session of the event the welcome speeches were given by Minister of Finance of the Republic of Latvia Dana Reizniece-Ozola, Governor of Latvijas Banka Ilmārs Rimšēvičs, and Vice-President and Head of Nasdaq Securities Services, Chair of the Supervisory Council of Nasdaq CSD Arminta Saladžienė.

Speaking at the opening session, Vice-President and Head of Nasdaq Securities Services, Chair of the Supervisory Council of Nasdaq CSD Arminta Saladžienė said: “The European post-trade arena is seeing an unprecedented change, driven by the technological and regulatory advancements. The ultimate goal of this transformation is better interconnected, harmonized, more competitive and resilient capital markets. More uniform market standards and the better connectivity that these changes bring will help Baltic issuers access a broader European investor base and vice versa, and will make the Baltic region more easily discoverable and more attractive for international investors.”

The keynote speech was delivered by Director General of the Directorate General Market Infrastructure and Payments of the European Central Bank Marc Bayle.

The Head of Baltic Corporate Banking of SEB Anders Larsson, the Head of Institutional Markets of LHV Bank Ivars Bergmanis, the Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Banka Māris Kālis, Director General of the Directorate General Market Infrastructure and Payments of the European Central Bank Marc Bayle, Vice-President and Head of Nasdaq Securities Services, Chair of the Supervisory Council of Nasdaq CSD Arminta Saladžienė,  and the Director of the Financial Policy Department of the Ministry of Finance of Lithuania Sigitas Mitkus joined the panel discussion of the event. The panel was moderated by the Head of the Nasdaq Baltic Market and CEO of Nasdaq CSD Indars Aščuks.
