Securities like equities, bonds, and fund units are registered at a CSD. The main functions of a CSD are safekeeping of the securities and facilitating the transfer of securities, which is done digitally via book entry. A CSD is also a place where securities trades are cleared and settled.
Nasdaq CSD provides a post-trade infrastructure and a wide range of securities services for Baltic and Icelandic market participants. As of the end of September 2022, it services more than 6,800 issuers in the region and has a total of over EUR 68 billion under custody.
